This month Hispanic Business magazine features the nation’s 100 Most Influential Hispanics. Their questions, concerns and points of views have placed them at the forefront of discussions on economic and public policy issues, and their opinions have become increasingly important with the growing number of influentials entering the realms of academia, government, entertainment, sports, and business. Hispanic Business reveals what they are thinking with a confidential survey, which illustrates a clear consensus (??Leaning??) in setting public agenda.
This year’s Influentials overwhelmingly prioritized “Access to Education” as the top issue of policy concern, and selected educators as the group that “can do the best job of further empowering the U.S. Hispanic community”. Federal Pell Grants were widely viewed as the federal initiative “most critical to the future of the Hispanic community”. As for the work of the current administration, a majority of Influentials disapprove, including recently elected Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who believes the main problem is the lack of funding of received by President Bush’s “No Child Left Behind” agenda.
